Sarah Caroline Enys was the firstborn child of Dwight and Caroline Enys, who passed away from a heart defect when she was only a few months old in 1798.

Sarah Caroline Enys was born in 1798, to Dwight and Caroline in Cornwall. Dwight helped her mother through labor, and he named her. Dwight and Caroline loved their daughter, but Dwight noticed not long later, that she had a heart defect.[2]
Knowing they had limited time with Sarah because her weak heart would not be able to survive being unwell, even from a cold, Sarah eventually became unwell with a cold, and passed away in Caroline's arms. Caroline wanted to hold her for a while, and would not let Dwight take her yet.
Dwight depended on the support of a friend, Ross Poldark, whose daughter Julia Poldark had also died when she was very young many years earlier. Sarah was buried following a funeral service, in which Dwight carried her coffin and wept openly. Caroline also grieved deeply for her daughter but in her own way[3], wanting to forget the loss of her daughter, and she became very cold and began spending time away from Dwight, but they eventually found each other again.[4]
